Professional's Choice 2XCOOL Boots - How to pick the correct size????

At www.DiscountHorseSupplies.com we help customers on a regular basis pick the correct size boots for their horse.  Feel free to contact us if you need assistance.

We have found that customers often buy the wrong size or are confused with how to properly size protective boots for their horse.  Each manufacturer has a different way of determining the sizing and even in the same brand different models can fit differently so the consumer can't just pick a size because they used that size before in a different model.

So with all the sizing information provided on the sizing charts which of the data really matters?  Is it the height of the horse?  The height of the boots, or the circumference?  It can be confusing... And does it all have to be correct to fit?  To answer this question let's use an example of something easier to relate to... buying clothes for yourself.  If you were to buy a pair of summer shorts to wear what is the first thing you would seek out when selecting a pair (other than color or style); waist size.  If you don't pick the correct waist size then their length means nothing.  Most likely you will only look at the options you have that fit your waist and if you have more than one choice you would then look other items such as length to make a selection.  Buying the boots for your horse is no different.  The primary thing you need to focus on is how they fit around the leg, which in sizing terms when looking at the sizing chart below means you need to focus on the circumference around the fetlock because if this doesn't fit then the rest doesn't matter.  In fact, the rest of the measurement data doesn't matter because if you are buying a specific model (such as the Ventech Elite) then once you pick the proper size based on measuring around your horse's fetlock you don't need anything else, you have the correct size for that model of boot and will accept the height as they are made.   For some reason people want to key in on the height measurement.   Let's use another example.  If you were very tall but had medium feet you would not buy XL socks because you liked the height; you would buy medium and live with the height as they were made (or you would pick a different model).

So if you are wanting a specific style of boot, let's say the Professional's Choice's Top of the Line 2XCOOL Boots then you would measure around the horse's fetlock on all four legs and pick the correct size looking solely at the circumference measurement.  If on the other hand you needed the tallest pair of boots then you would pick a model that is taller (such as the SMBII) and then focus on the circumference using the sizing chart for that model.  The most popular style is the Ventech Elite.

The take away here is to pick the model you want based on style and features and then pick the size based on the circumference data using your measurement around the horse's fetlock.  Just like people can be tall or short and have thin or heavy legs so can horses.  Just because a horse is short or tall doesn't mean the legs will always be small for a short horse and large for a tall horse.  The only way to truly know the size you need for your horse is to measure around the fetlock and then pick the boot that has a circumference measurement that fits what you measured.

Remember, all brands and all models use DIFFERENT sizing charts so be sure to measure and use the correct chart.

If you are unsure where to measure, here is a picture of the horse's fetlock, measure snug around the fetlock.

Once you have the fetlock measurement, look at the circumference size in the chart below (note: the 2XCOOL and older Ventech models fit the same).  That number on the chart is the largest size the boot can support so if your horse measured 10" in the front you would need a size medium front because the small maxed out at 9.5" and would be too small where the medium maxed out at 10.5" and the large would be too large with to much overlap and it would not stay in place.  You would do this for the front and rear legs.

Below is the measuring chart for the Professional's Choice Ventech Elite which sizes the same as the 2XCOOL; look at the circumference portion.

At Discount Horse Supplies we are here to help so if you need to send us your sizing measurements, we'd be happy to double check that you are picking the correct size.

We sell and highly recommend the Professional's Choice 2XCOOL, which at the time of this writing is their top of the line boot.   We have low prices with free shipping options and are here to help you pick the correct size.
